Hello Compatriot,

I hope you're well today and I believe are more determined than yesterday to bring to reality the dream of our generation, the younger generation, for a better and great Nigeria

A short while ago I came accross an opinion published in a Nigerian newspaper in whch the writer asserted, among other things, that IBB should be left alone and that 'June 12 is gone for good'. Like many misguided youngsters out there, the fellow completely missed the symbolic message June 12 represents, and it is rather curious that he actually, in the same breadth, called for a 'peaceful revolution' instead of 'dwelling on the past'. Indeed, revolution entails a radical departure from, but not a blind denial of, the past with a view to constructing and establishing new structures for a virile, more equal and progressive socio-economic order.

The message of the June 12 presidential election is that Nigeria is effectively a pseudo-democracy in which the will of the people is nothing to reckon with. According to IBB, although Abiola won the election, he could not claim his mandate because the powerful 'elite', military and civilian, do not want him. This is the tragic tale of the Nigerian State, under both military and civilian rule, that the electorate is inconsequential and the rulers are ruiners, accountable to no one.
Any revolution worthy of the name has to start with this recognition, and nothing encaspulates it more than the voided June 12 election. The result of that historic coup against the electorate is
that since June 12, splintered groups, especially in the Niger Delta, have increasingly resorted to violence as a means of getting their voices heard. The language of violence has taken the place of the ballot, and time is running out to change the dynamics, to establish strong institutions for a more just, peaceful and prosperous society.
